Week 3

From today’s lecture, I learned that to become a really good negotiator, I should be willing to put my trust in others because it is the key to trust myself better. When we have trust issues, things won’t work out as we want, and so communication surely will not go well. For that reason, we should fix our trust issues by being more open and transparent when communicating, paying mutual respect, and showing interest to the other party.


Besides, a negotiator should have credibility which comes together with integrity and expertise. It is indeed vital to have credibility while negotiating because in a way it will make us look knowledgeable and honest as a person which in other words will help a lot in smoothing the communication process.


Apart from that, I understand that the assertive attitude as a communicator plays a big role in negotiating. A person with assertive attitude is indeed lucky because they can stand on their own, and can speak out their opinions without fear of being judged. From what I observe, assertive people usually become a team leader because they have clear goals, are very decisive, and always earn respect from others because they are the ones who can create a win-win situation.


From all the characteristics of a good negotiator, I as for one still do not have enough of the characteristics to become a good negotiator. However, it doesn’t mean that I won’t be one because I’ll make sure that I can. Of course, there is still more to learn, but I’ll be sure to pick up everything soon. I still need to hone my passive attitude to be assertive so that I would be able to speak up my own stand.
